Traditional style interiors are comforting and classic. You may have grown up in a home that was decorated with a traditional style of furnishings.

What is traditional style decorating and what is it not?

Traditional decorating is calm, orderly, and predictable. There is nothing wild or chaotic in a traditional room. Furnishings are classic and might feel outdated. Nothing is a surprise. Pieces match and are consistent. Naturally people welcome consistency and predictability when it comes to home interiors and design; it makes us feel at home and comfortable.

Frames are placed in pairs and centered in the room symmetrically. Nothing seems out of place as all furniture and accessories complement each other perfectly, with the same colour tones, materials and styles.

The right colour

Warm, inviting neutrals create a classic, ageless style. Bringing a relaxing atmosphere to your living space will create a relaxing, homely environment.

In general a traditional frame will have gentle curves and will not be too textured or shiny. Colours will be in a mid-range of tones, browns, golds etc.. although very dark and very light colours may be used to create a contrast, drawing the eye to the masterpiece you have framed on your wall.

The right style

Normally when we advise people when choosing a frame we tell them to take into account 4 main variables:

• The colour/style of other items or furniture and decor
• The colour/style of existing frames in the same room
• The colour/style of your wall
• The colour/style of your artwork/picture
